Democrats are trying to leave our southern border wide open.
A New Mexico Democrat has criticized the installation of a razor wire barrier along the Texas-New Mexico border, labeling it as a violation of the Constitution. The Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, directed the National Guard to erect this barrier in an effort to deter migrants from entering the state. The Guard reinforced the barrier with concertina wire near the New Mexico city of Sunland Park, which shares a border with El Paso, Texas.
According to Newsweek, Governor Abbott explained that the purpose of these barriers around El Paso was to redirect migrants crossing illegally into New Mexico before eventually entering El Paso, Texas. However, Congressman Gabe Vasquez, a Democrat representing New Mexico’s 2nd district, deems this barrier “unconstitutional.” He views it as one in a series of political maneuvers by the Texas governor to vilify immigrants, offering no sustainable solutions to the ongoing crisis.
Abbott’s border security measures are part of his multi-billion-dollar initiative called Operation Lone Star, which includes the deployment of a 1,000-foot floating barrier made up of bright orange buoys with circular saws in between, making it even more difficult to cross the Rio Grande. This initiative has faced legal challenges, with the U.S. Justice Department suing Abbott over the barrier.
Furthermore, razor wire fencing has been set up along the border, and Texas has provided buses to transport migrants to Democratic-led cities since the spring of the previous year. According to Abbott, Texas has transported approximately 58,000 migrants out of the state, with over 20,000 going to New York City.
Democrats in both Texas and New Mexico are calling for the removal of the border barrier between the states, accusing Governor Abbott of misusing public tax funds and impeding the freedom of movement across state lines. Gilberto Hinojosa, chair of the Texas Democratic Party, and Jessica Velasquez, chair of the New Mexico Democratic Party, have jointly condemned Abbott’s use of razor wire fencing and demanded its immediate removal.
