This seemed…unprofessional.
A longtime federal judge just delivered another stinging rebuke of President Donald Trump’s second-term agenda — and this time, he even dragged his own wife into the ruling.
Judge Quotes His Wife to Attack Trump
U.S. District Judge William Young, a Reagan appointee who has sat on the bench for 40 years, ruled Tuesday against Trump’s plan to deport foreign students who participated in pro-Palestinian activism.
In his 161-page decision, Young claimed that Trump’s leadership style could be summed up by a remark his wife once made: “He seems to be winning. He ignores everything and keeps bullying ahead.”
Young admitted that his wife’s comment wasn’t about Trump’s case at all, but insisted it “perfectly captured” the President’s approach to governing.
Judge Accuses Trump of Ignoring the Constitution
The judge went on to write that Trump disregards the Constitution and civil laws whenever it suits him, though he acknowledged that many Americans actually appreciate Trump’s no-nonsense defiance in today’s overregulated society.
“Lawyers always want to tell you what you can’t do,” Young wrote. “President Trump simply ignores them.”
Clash Over Deportations and Free Speech
Young claimed the Trump administration unfairly targeted pro-Palestinian noncitizens for deportation because of their political views — a violation of their First Amendment rights, according to the judge. He has yet to decide on the final remedy.
This case adds to Young’s long-running clashes with Trump. In June, he blocked the administration from cutting millions in health grants tied to diversity and equity programs — a ruling later overturned by the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court Pushback
The high court sharply criticized Young’s defiance of precedent, with Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh blasting his earlier ruling. Retired Justice Stephen Breyer even gave a rare interview defending Young, showing just how divisive the Trump-era judiciary has become.
Judge Admits Trump’s Power
Despite his criticisms, Young conceded that Trump knows how to use the legal system to his advantage. Thanks to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on presidential immunity, Trump can now deploy the full power of the federal government without fear of personal liability.
Young admitted this was a “daunting prospect,” while warning that Trump has successfully pressured universities, law firms, and the media to bend to his will. He even suggested that many Americans secretly admire Trump’s bold defiance, writing, “In our secret hearts, many of us are tiny Trump wannabes.”
Bottom Line
This latest ruling highlights the ongoing battle between President Trump and activist judges who continue trying to block his agenda. For millions of Americans, Trump’s refusal to bow to the political and legal establishment remains one of the key reasons they support him — no matter how many judges try to stand in his way.
