Here’s is a closer look at Kamala’s inner circle and what people around her really think.

During the recent Democratic National Convention (DNC), Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and close Kamala Harris ally, called for a radical rethinking of American democracy and freedom. Speaking on the third night of the convention, Robinson emphasized the need to envision a version of democracy that goes beyond the principles laid out by the Founding Fathers. Her remarks were intended to encourage attendees to consider a form of democracy that centers on contemporary social and political issues rather than historical documents.

Earlier, at the LGBTQ+ Kickoff event of the DNC, Robinson was asked how to effectively build power for LGBTQ individuals and other minority groups. She responded by urging a broader reimagining of democracy, suggesting that it should focus on inclusivity and representation in a way that surpasses the original framework established by the Founding Fathers. Robinson asserted that the current moment calls for a revolutionary approach to democracy, one that fully incorporates the diverse identities and experiences of all Americans.

On the DNC stage, Robinson praised Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, describing them as champions of progress and advocates for LGBTQ+ rights. She celebrated the strides her own family has made from the era of slavery to today, highlighting what she views as significant progress in American history. Robinson contrasted this progress with the policies of former President Donald Trump, whom she accused of attempting to undermine LGBTQ+ rights and freedoms.

In addition to her DNC appearances, Robinson has been active in advocating for LGBTQ+ causes. She hosted the HRC’s “Out for Kamala Harris LGBTQ+ Unity” rally and made headlines last year for her testimony during a Senate hearing on LGBTQ+ civil rights. During her testimony, Robinson disputed the notion that biological males have a physical advantage over women in sports, using Serena Williams as an example of female athletic prowess. This claim was met with controversy, given historical instances where male players have defeated top female athletes.

Robinson’s statements and advocacy reflect a broader push within certain circles to redefine American values and rights to align with contemporary social movements.
