California’s Democratic Governor Chooses Mockery Over Solutions as Immigration Crisis Deepens

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) took to Instagram on Tuesday to mock President Donald Trump, posting a video that used pop singer Taylor Swift’s song “You Need to Calm Down”—a move critics are calling tone-deaf amid growing unrest tied to illegal immigration and nationwide protests.

The 10-second video, posted to Newsom’s official account, features edited footage of Newsom standing beside President Trump in front of Air Force One, with Swift’s lyrics targeting how Trump communicates. “Say it in the street, that’s a knockout,” plays just before the clip cuts to a Truth Social post from President Trump, where he slams Newsom’s failure to restore order in Los Angeles. Trump refers to the governor with a jab, calling him “Newscum.”

President Trump Calls Out Newsom for Failing to Control Riots

In the post shared Saturday, Trump wrote: “If California Governor Gavin ‘Newscum’ and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass can’t handle their responsibilities — and it’s clear to everyone they can’t — then the federal government will take action and deal with the riots and looting the way it should be done.”

Newsom’s video continues with Swift’s lyrics—“But you say it in a tweet, that’s a cop out”—as the footage zooms in on Trump with the phrase “r u ok?” displayed across the screen. The caption reads mockingly: “America’s keyboard warrior.”

Newsom Prioritizes Social Media Over Public Safety

The post comes as Los Angeles faces increasing violence following federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. Instead of addressing the issue directly, Newsom focused on attacking the President online, while President Trump deployed thousands of National Guard troops to restore law and order.

Newsom attempted legal action to block Trump’s intervention, but the courts did not grant him relief. Many are questioning the governor’s priorities as he resists federal aid while cities across California suffer from crime, looting, and illegal immigration.

Newsom Accuses Trump of ‘Abuse of Power’ While Chaos Continues

Later Tuesday, Newsom doubled down with a second video, accusing Trump of escalating the crisis. “This brazen abuse of power by a sitting President inflamed a combustible situation,” he claimed.

Yet for many Americans—especially older voters concerned about safety, immigration, and leadership—Newsom’s Instagram antics appear out of touch. As the crisis along the southern border intensifies, President Trump is taking firm action while California’s Democrat leadership continues to prioritize politics over public protection.
