Americans want Obama and his buddies gone!
Obama’s Allies Push Luxury Hotel In Struggling Chicago Neighborhood
Chicago residents are furious after learning that a massive luxury hotel, tied to one of Barack Obama’s longtime associates, could soon tower over their neighborhood. The 26-story project, led by Allison Davis — a man deeply connected to Obama’s early legal career — would sit just blocks away from the controversial Obama Presidential Center.
A Billion-Dollar Obama Project, Plus a Luxury Hotel
Davis’ Aquinnah Investment Trust submitted plans in March for the 303-foot hotel. According to city filings, the building would include 250 hotel rooms, retail shops, office space, a swimming pool, and more than 100 parking spaces. The development would also rezone an affordable housing complex, fueling fears that working-class families will be forced out to make room for wealthy elites.
At the same time, Obama’s own $850 million presidential center has already ballooned to nearly $1 billion — with years of delays, cost overruns, and widespread criticism over its lack of architectural charm. Even President Donald Trump has mocked the project, pointing to “woke hiring practices” and calling it a perfect example of liberal waste.
Chicago Locals Push Back Against Obama’s Hotel Scheme
The Chicago Plan Commission gave initial approval in August, sending the project to the City Council. But residents are speaking out loudly. In April, protesters rallied against the hotel, saying it would accelerate gentrification and push long-time families out.
Organizer Dixon Romeo blasted the deal, saying: “When you can fast-track a luxury hotel while the community lives in blight, you’re intentionally trying to gentrify a neighborhood.”
Emails from other residents warned that the project would raise rents, attract greedy developers, and displace struggling families. “Nobody knows what our communities need better than we do,” one resident wrote, urging city officials to listen to ordinary people instead of developers chasing profits.
Experts Warn of Displacement and Rising Costs
Urban planning experts agree with the concerns. Karen Chapple of UC Berkeley warned that “speculation and tenant displacement” always follow projects like this, and she blasted city leaders for failing to put anti-displacement measures in place years ago when Obama’s center was first announced.
A Handful Support “Bird-Friendly Design”
While the majority oppose the hotel, a few residents bizarrely praised it for including “bird-safe design” features. Critics say such talking points ignore the very real struggles of Chicago families who are worried about skyrocketing costs, crime, and economic decline.
Obama’s Longtime Ally At the Center of Controversy
The developer, Allison Davis, is no stranger to controversy. He co-founded the law firm where Obama worked in the 1990s and ran a housing company that was sued by the City of Chicago for failing to provide heat to tenants. Now, his luxury hotel plans are being slammed as another example of Obama’s inner circle enriching themselves while neighborhoods crumble.
Chicago Families Ask: Who Benefits?
For many locals, the Obama Presidential Center and its companion luxury hotel symbolize the same story: elites getting richer while everyday Americans are ignored. Rising crime, higher taxes, and displacement are the real “legacy” many Chicago residents see — and they’re making it clear they’ve had enough.
