Trump has a major issue he’s secretly dealing with.
President Donald Trump is refusing to bend to Democrat pressure, vowing he “won’t be extorted” into reopening the government until liberals stop demanding more taxpayer-funded health care giveaways.
As the historic shutdown enters its sixth week, Trump says the crisis exists for one reason — Democrats care more about power than the people.
“They’ve lost their way,” Trump told 60 Minutes. “If they don’t vote to reopen the government, that’s their problem — not America’s.”
Trump Draws a Line in the Sand
The president made it clear he won’t be bullied into bad deals or backroom bargains. Democrats have voted 13 times against GOP measures to reopen the government — holding millions of workers hostage to force another Obamacare subsidy extension.
Trump fired back, saying the Affordable Care Act is “a disaster” and that Republicans are ready to fix it once the government is back open.
“If Democrats vote to reopen the government, we’ll work on fixing this broken health care system,” he said.
Filibuster Fight Heats Up
Trump is also calling on Republican leaders to end the Senate filibuster, the outdated rule that allows Democrats to block nearly everything.
“Republicans have to get tougher,” Trump warned. “If we end the filibuster, we can do exactly what we want.”
But some GOP senators, like Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), are hesitant — even as federal workers miss paychecks and airports face massive delays. Thune urged Democrats to show some backbone instead.
“We need five Democrats who care more about American lives than political leverage,” Thune said.
Democrats Double Down on Obamacare
Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, are demanding another costly subsidy expansion for Obamacare — a law many families say has made health care less affordable.
They claim the program is “working,” even as premiums rise and doctors disappear from coverage networks.
Trump disagrees. “Obamacare is terrible,” he said flatly. “It needs real reform, not more handouts.”
A Battle Over America’s Future
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump is in close talks with Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, pushing them to hold firm and not cave to Democrat “fear tactics.”
Johnson agreed, saying the filibuster protects Americans “from the worst impulses of the far-left Democrat Party.”
But Trump’s message is louder than ever: “I like John Thune, I think he’s terrific. But I disagree with him on this point.”
Democrats Play Games While Americans Wait
The shutdown’s impact is spreading.
Airports report growing delays, while 42 million Americans relying on food assistance programs could see disruptions — because Democrats refuse to pass a simple funding bill.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent put it bluntly:
“The best way for SNAP benefits to get paid is for five Democrats to cross the aisle and reopen the government.”
Trump calls it exactly what it is — extortion.
“I won’t be extorted by Democrats who’d rather play politics than serve the people,” he said.
Bottom Line: Trump Standing Tall While Washington Plays Games
The president’s resolve is clear: no surrender, no secret deals, and no taxpayer-funded bailouts for Obamacare.
Democrats may try to spin it as a “shutdown,” but to millions of conservative Americans, it looks like Trump standing up for fairness, strength, and fiscal sanity.
And that’s why his supporters aren’t budging — they see a president finally saying “Enough!” to Washington’s political extortion.
