Musk has been entrusted with overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a temporary body created to audit federal agencies and cut down on waste. Under Musk’s direction, the DOGE team has targeted agencies like the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), uncovering inefficiencies and questionable spending that conservatives have lauded. The president confirmed that Musk’s next assignments include investigating the Department of Education and the military, where he believes billions of taxpayer dollars are being wasted.
Trump reaffirmed that rooting out waste and fraud was a key part of his campaign platform. “We’re going to find hundreds of billions of dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse,” Trump emphasized. He also noted that Musk has been following his executive orders, including ones aimed at dismantling costly and unnecessary programs like diversity initiatives and foreign aid.
