This has left some conservatives scratching their heads.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, has indicated her current focus lies not on impeaching President Joe Biden, but rather on the Senate trial concerning Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. Greene, known for her alignment with former President Donald Trump and her outspoken critiques of Biden, has previously called for Biden’s impeachment.

In a recent statement on X (formerly Twitter), Greene emphasized the potential grounds for impeaching Biden, citing concerns such as the alleged weaponization of the Department of Justice against Trump and political adversaries, as well as alleged corruption within the Biden family’s business dealings with foreign entities and the ongoing border situation.

However, when questioned about the timing of impeaching Biden following Mayorkas’s impeachment, Greene highlighted her role on the Oversight Committee, indicating that there are still ongoing investigations and depositions to be completed, particularly involving Hunter Biden and James Biden. These investigations pertain to allegations surrounding Hunter Biden’s foreign business connections and potential benefits received by the president.

The recent impeachment of Mayorkas by the House, centered on his handling of the border crisis, further underscores the political dynamics at play. Greene reiterated the importance of completing ongoing investigations before shifting focus to potential impeachment proceedings against Biden, emphasizing her current role as an impeachment manager in the Senate.

In response to the House vote, a DHS spokesperson defended Mayorkas, condemning what they perceive as baseless allegations against a dedicated public servant. Notably, Mayorkas’s impeachment in the Senate would require a two-thirds majority vote.

Meanwhile, developments in Biden’s impeachment inquiry faced complications with the indictment of FBI informant Alexander Smirnov on charges related to allegedly false statements concerning Hunter Biden’s Ukrainian business dealings. Hunter Biden’s lawyer criticized House Republicans for relying on unsubstantiated claims and questioned the timing of Smirnov’s indictment following the House impeachment vote.

Greene also expressed skepticism regarding Smirnov’s indictment, raising questions about the timing and circumstances surrounding his arrest, particularly in the aftermath of the successful House impeachment vote. These developments further illustrate the complex interplay of politics and legal proceedings surrounding both the Biden administration and its critics.
