According to Newsweek, John Rowley, James Trusty, and Lindsey Halligan, attorneys representing Donald Trump, arrived at the Department of Justice (DOJ) around 10 a.m. CBS News reported that they entered the building without making any comments. This meeting is seen as an indication that special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation is nearing its end, potentially leading to an imminent indictment.
According to former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani, the meeting between Trump’s lawyers and the Department of Justice suggests that they anticipate an indictment, and likely in the near future.
CNN’s source has revealed that a grand jury for the case is anticipated to receive testimony from an additional witness at the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C. This development marks the latest activity involving a grand jury in over a month.
Following their letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on May 23, attorneys John Rowley and James Trusty made their appearances. They had requested a meeting to address their concerns about what they perceive as an ongoing injustice in relation to special counsel Jack Smith’s dual investigations. Smith’s mandate encompasses not only an examination of whether Donald Trump mishandled classified documents, but also an investigation into potential attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. Trump has consistently maintained his innocence regarding all ongoing criminal investigations.
Trump’s lawyers said in the letter, “President Trump is being treated unfairly. No President of the United States has ever, in the history of our country, been baselessly investigated in such an outrageous and unlawful fashion.”

During the meeting, Trump allegedly stated that he was unable to share the contents of the document with others as he no longer possessed the authority to declassify it after leaving the presidency.
