Here’s what happened.
A Texas man is back in the headlines after allegedly trespassing at Mar-a-Lago, the private Florida resort owned by President Donald J. Trump. The intruder claimed he wanted to spread the gospel and marry Trump’s granddaughter.
Midnight Security Breach at Trump’s Iconic Resort
According to the Palm Beach Police Department, 23-year-old Anthony Thomas Reyes climbed over a fence at Mar-a-Lago shortly past 12 am on Tuesday. The incident triggered alarm systems on the property.
U.S. Secret Service agents on duty immediately responded and detained Reyes without incident. He was later arrested by local law enforcement and charged with occupied trespassing—a serious offense under Florida law.
“No Secret Service protectees, including President Trump, were present during the incident,” said a Secret Service spokesperson.
Man Claims Mission Was ‘Religious’—And Personal
Authorities say Reyes told them he intended to speak directly with President Trump about the Christian gospel and planned to propose to Kai Madison Trump, the 18-year-old daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and granddaughter of the former president.
Court records confirm that Reyes had previously trespassed at Mar-a-Lago during the 2024 New Year’s Eve celebrations. He has now been booked into the Palm Beach County Jail with bond set at $50,000. A judge has issued a strict order barring him from any contact with the Trump family.
Security Concerns Mount After Prior Assassination Attempt
This incident adds to growing concerns about security threats involving high-profile political figures. In April, Ryan Wesley Routh was charged with attempted first-degree murder and terrorism after allegedly trying to assassinate Trump at his West Palm Beach golf course during the 2024 election campaign.
These events raise questions about how political leaders—especially conservatives—remain targets in today’s divided climate.
Trump’s Granddaughter Focused on Future
Despite the media attention, Kai Trump continues to focus on her academic and athletic goals. A standout student at the Benjamin School, she has committed to play collegiate golf at the University of Miami.
