Newsom isn’t backing down.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is openly launching a political war on Texas and Republicans nationwide, escalating the battle for control of Congress and America’s future.
In a direct response to President Donald Trump’s support of Texas Republicans, Newsom and his Democrat supermajority are moving to ram through new congressional maps that would wipe out GOP gains and hand Democrats a partisan edge.
California Democrats Move to Cancel Texas Wins
Lawmakers in Sacramento are preparing to pass a trio of radical bills that would:
- Overturn California’s independent redistricting commission
- Replace it with a partisan, Democrat-controlled map
- Target five Republican-held districts for elimination
The move comes just days after Texas Republicans approved a new map — backed by Trump and Governor Greg Abbott — that delivers five additional Republican-leaning congressional seats.
Now, Newsom wants to cancel those gains by flipping five California districts held by Reps. Doug LaMalfa, David Valadao, Darrell Issa, Ken Calvert, and Kevin Kiley.
“This is about taking back our country,” Newsom declared, vowing Democrats would “punch back forcefully and intentionally.”
Republicans Push Back — But Courts Side With Newsom
The California GOP argued that Democrats are trampling constitutional protections, insisting lawmakers were denied their required 30-day review window. But the state’s liberal Supreme Court sided with Newsom, clearing the way for Thursday’s session.
The legislature will consider three bills:
- Funding Newsom’s special session
- Approving the new gerrymandered map
- Setting up a November ballot measure to cement Democrat power
Trump Celebrates GOP Victory in Texas
While Newsom tries to erase Republican districts, President Trump celebrated Texas’ bold action.
“Big WIN for the Great State of Texas!!! On our way to FIVE more Congressional seats and saving your Rights, your Freedoms, and your Country, itself,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Texas never lets us down. Florida, Indiana, and others are looking to do the same thing.”
Trump has urged other states to follow Texas’ lead and lock in strong GOP maps to protect America First policies.
Obama Cheers Newsom’s Power Grab
Former President Barack Obama, speaking at Martha’s Vineyard, praised Newsom’s plan as “responsible,” despite admitting gerrymandering was not his preference.
His comments confirm what many conservatives long feared: Democrats will abandon their so-called “principles” if it means stopping Trump and the Republican movement.
What’s at Stake for 2025 and Beyond
This showdown is bigger than California or Texas. It’s about whether Trump and Republicans keep control of the House of Representatives — or whether Democrats succeed in using backroom redistricting deals to rig the system.
With America’s future on the line, the redistricting war has become the newest front in the fight for freedom, representation, and the survival of Trump’s America First movement.
