AOC is gaining a lot of steam.
The battle for control of Congress is heating up — and the latest Federal Election Commission (FEC) numbers reveal a surprising twist. Socialist Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has skyrocketed to the top of House fundraising, while Republicans fight to hold onto their Trump-powered majorities.
Trump’s Slim Majorities on the Line
President Donald Trump’s 2024 comeback delivered Republicans control of both the House and Senate, but the margins are razor-thin. The GOP holds just 53 Senate seats and 219 House seats, with four vacancies looming large. Every vote counts — and Democrats smell blood in the water.
Historically, the president’s party loses ground in its first midterm. But Trump isn’t leaving anything to chance this time. Republican-led states like Texas are redrawing congressional maps to protect America First gains, while liberal states like California are counter-punching with their own gerrymanders.
Democrats Counting on Cash
Once again, Democrats are leaning on their fundraising machine. They’ve outraised Republicans in both chambers, boasting $159.7 million for Senate races compared to $131.9 million for the GOP. In the House, Democrats pulled in $219.5 million versus Republicans’ $210 million.
But money doesn’t always buy elections. Former Vice President Kamala Harris outraised Trump by millions in 2024 — and still lost in a landslide.
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is floundering. Politico reports the DNC raised just $15 million by June — its weakest showing in five years — compared to a commanding $80 million from the Republican National Committee (RNC). Major Democrat donors are holding back, leaving the party strapped for cash.
Senate Spotlight: Georgia and South Carolina
Georgia’s Jon Ossoff is Democrats’ golden boy, hauling in nearly $42 million alone — a quarter of all Democrat Senate fundraising. But Republicans are no strangers to building war chests. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina leads the GOP with $17.3 million, trailed by Tennessee’s Bill Hagerty at $11.3 million.
Veteran Republicans like Tom Cotton (Arkansas), Bill Cassidy (Louisiana), and John Cornyn (Texas) are also stacking millions to defend their seats.
House Shock: Ocasio-Cortez Cashes In
Here’s the headline grabber: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York tops all House candidates with $15.4 million raised — more than double what top Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries and Ro Khanna have managed.
Republicans aren’t far behind. House Speaker Mike Johnson has pulled in $8.7 million, while Rep. Steve Scalise has secured $4.7 million. Rising conservative leaders like Rep. Young Kim of California are also gaining ground.
What’s at Stake for 2026
Fundraising tells only part of the story. Democrats may raise big money, but Trump’s movement has proven again and again that grassroots voters — not billionaire donors — decide elections.
The 2026 midterms will decide whether Trump’s America First agenda expands or whether radical Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez gain enough momentum to stall it. With the margins this slim, every seat matters — and America’s future hangs in the balance.
