Newsom seems scared.
California Governor Gavin Newsom appeared alongside some of the Democratic Party’s most powerful figures this week as new questions continue to swirl around investigations reportedly involving his administration and members of his family.
Just days after Newsom publicly accused President Donald Trump of targeting him through federal investigations, the governor and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, traveled to Chicago for the opening of former President Barack Obama’s presidential library.
The appearance immediately drew attention because it marked the couple’s first major public event since reports surfaced that multiple investigations were examining allegations connected to current and former members of the Newsom administration.
Photos from the event showed Newsom mingling with Democratic heavyweights including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and media icon Oprah Winfrey.
For critics, the timing was impossible to ignore.
As scrutiny over the Newsom family’s finances continues to grow, the California governor was seen networking with some of the most influential figures in Democratic politics while speculation intensifies about his future national ambitions.
Newsom, widely viewed as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, claimed earlier this week that President Trump directed the Department of Justice to investigate him and his family as political retaliation.
However, sources familiar with the matter told The California Post that investigations involving the Newsom administration reportedly began long before those accusations were made public.
According to reports, investigators are examining allegations involving public corruption, financial relationships, and activities connected to several nonprofit organizations tied to Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
Much of the attention has focused on nonprofit groups founded by California’s first partner and the flow of money between those organizations and entities that conduct business with the state government.
Public records show that Siebel Newsom receives compensation through the Representation Project, a nonprofit organization she founded to address gender-related issues. The organization has also worked with her production company, Girls Club Entertainment, which develops documentary films and media projects.
Another nonprofit founded by Siebel Newsom, the California Partners Project, has also faced renewed scrutiny after reports revealed that major donors with interests before state government contributed millions of dollars to the organization.
While no wrongdoing has been proven, critics argue the relationships create potential conflicts of interest that deserve closer examination.
Despite the growing controversy, Jennifer Siebel Newsom has continued her public schedule.
Just one day before joining her husband in Chicago, she attended the Bentonville Film Festival in Arkansas to promote her latest documentary, “Miss Representation: Rise Up.”
The film examines the impact of artificial intelligence, social media algorithms, and online culture on women, according to promotional materials.
For now, the investigations remain a developing story. But as Newsom continues positioning himself as a leading voice within the Democratic Party, questions surrounding his administration and family finances are unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
With the 2028 presidential race already generating speculation, the political stakes surrounding California’s governor may be higher than ever.
