Mexico’s President Melts Down
The proposal sparked immediate outrage from Mexico’s socialist president, Claudia Sheinbaum, who went viral over the weekend for threatening action against the U.S.
“If necessary, we’ll mobilize,” Sheinbaum warned in a fiery speech.
“We don’t want taxes on remittances from our fellow countrymen.”
She didn’t clarify what “mobilize” meant — but the threat was loud and clear.
GOP Response: Raise the Tax Even Higher
Republicans didn’t flinch — in fact, they doubled down.
Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) slammed Sheinbaum’s comments and announced a bold countermeasure:
“The U.S. is not a global piggy bank,” Schmitt posted.
“I’m introducing legislation to quadruple the remittance tax to 15%. We don’t take kindly to threats.”
That sentiment was echoed by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), who demanded a tougher stance:
“New reason to amend the Senate bill. We should tax remittances at a far higher rate.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) kept it simple:
“Raise the remittances!!”
Trump’s Tariffs Deliver Results
Earlier this year, President Trump slapped 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada not protected under the USMCA. The goal? To pressure both countries to stop the flow of fentanyl, human trafficking, and illegal border crossings.
