Looks like Hillary Clinton doesn’t want AOC’s The Squad getting too powerful.
On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton endorsed George Latimer, who is challenging progressive “Squad” member Rep. Jamaal Bowman in a competitive New York House primary. Clinton announced her support on social media, emphasizing the importance of electing strong Democrats to Congress who will defend abortion rights, oppose the NRA, and support President Biden’s agenda.
Latimer expressed gratitude for Clinton’s endorsement, noting that her support energizes his grassroots campaign, which is committed to delivering meaningful results for their communities.
The endorsement comes amid a heated primary race marked by accusations of racism. Earlier in the day, Bowman accused Latimer of being influenced by Republican billionaires and of harboring racist views. In response, Latimer criticized Bowman during a debate for neglecting White and Asian residents in his district.
This primary contest in New York’s 16th Congressional District highlights divisions within the Democratic Party, particularly concerning U.S. policy toward Israel. Latimer has received support from pro-Israel groups, while Bowman has been criticized by some for his stance on related issues.
Bowman, seeking a third term, is supported by fellow “Squad” members and high-profile politicians like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
