This was unexpected.
It has just been revealed by former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner that Trump secretly wanted to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rival Benny Gantz ahead of the March 2020 Israeli election.
According to Axios, the accusation was made in Kushner’s new book. Kushner’s claims showed how Trump and the former Israeli prime minister had a poor relationship with each other.
It also showed how much Trump liked Gantz after their meeting in the Oval Office on Jan. 27, 2020, just one day before Trump released his peace plan for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Trump’s relationship got damaged with Netanyahu after he said in a speech that Israel would annex the Jordan Valley and all the Jewish settlements in West Bank which surprised Trump and Kushner because Netanyahu never told them he would beforehand.
“In both tone and substance the speech was way off the mark. It contained nothing conciliatory toward the Palestinians. It was essentially a campaign speech for his domestic political audience, and it misrepresented our plan,” Kushner explained.
Kushner explained that Netanyahu made Trump and him look like liars to several Arab ambassadors who attended the speech.
“I had walked them through the peace proposal and given them my word that Trump would present a dignified and balanced proposal – one that required compromises on both sides. But that certainly wasn’t the deal Bibi was describing” Kushner explained.
