Republicans have picked a side.

A rally organized by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in New York turned out unlike he expected when he saw numerous Republicans showing up that actually supported former US President Donald Trump instead of him.

According to Newsweek, It is highly anticipated that DeSantis will announce his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and challenge Trump in the primaries. As part of his book tour for “The Courage to be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival,” the Florida Governor delivered a speech at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, Long Island on Saturday.

A crowd of Trump supporters were protesting outside the venue and condemning the governor for holding an event in the former president’s home state, just a few days before he is expected to face charges in New York as a result of the investigation into hush money paid to Stormy Daniels.

On Saturday, Paul Ingrassia, who co-hosts the Right on Point podcast, informed a journalist that a group of Trump supporters from Long Island, New York had gathered to show their support for Trump not DeSantis.

“Just coming out to show that this is Trump country, this is not a place for Ron DeSantis. We’re very upset by the fact that DeSantis has the temerity to step on Trump territory days before this indictment thing is going down,” he explained.

Despite facing constant criticism from Trump, DeSantis has refrained from retaliating and recently stated that he would not comply with any request for extradition from New York if the former president refuses to turn himself in as expected.

During his book tour event, DeSantis spoke to the audience and voiced his disapproval of Bragg, who is expected to bring charges against Trump.
