‘New Ocasio-Cortez’ Becomes Red State Leader

Far-Left Democrat Aims to Bring AOC-Style Politics to the Bible Belt

Democrats have officially chosen their candidate for Tennessee’s upcoming special congressional election, and their pick says everything about where the party is heading.

Aftyn Behn, a liberal state representative and former healthcare activist, secured her party’s nomination Tuesday for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District — a district that President Donald Trump won by nearly 20 points in 2024.

Local Democrats have already dubbed her “the AOC of Tennessee,” comparing her to radical New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

But Behn’s far-left platform of government-run healthcare, climate mandates, and “equity” policies may not sit well with voters in the heart of Trump Country — where traditional values, faith, and small-town freedom still matter most.

Trump’s Endorsement Still Reigns Supreme

While Democrats are trying to rebrand Tennessee’s deep-red district, the Republican side remains firmly behind President Trump’s leadership.

Trump’s endorsed candidate, Matt Van Epp, a former state commissioner and businessman, triumphed in a crowded GOP primary Tuesday — proving once again that Trump’s backing remains the gold standard in Republican politics.

Van Epp now moves on to the December 2 general election with a major advantage, running in a district where the America First agenda remains overwhelmingly popular.

Democrats Face Steep Uphill Battle in Trump Country

Behn faces an enormous challenge trying to win over a district that has voted Republican for generations. The seat was vacated by Rep. Mark Green, who left Congress earlier this year for a private-sector job.

Currently, Republicans hold a 219-213 majority in the House, with two vacancies — including Tennessee’s 7th District and one in Texas.

Even if Democrats hope Behn can energize younger progressive voters, political analysts agree her message is unlikely to resonate in a region that proudly supported Donald Trump and conservative Christian values.

Red America Isn’t Buying the AOC Act

For many Tennessee voters, Behn’s campaign looks like a copy-and-paste version of AOC’s playbook — complete with climate alarmism, social justice slogans, and promises of “free” everything.

But voters in Tennessee’s heartland know better. They’ve seen what happens when progressive policies take root in cities like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco — rising crime, inflation, and broken communities.

As one local commentator put it, “We don’t need another AOC. We need leaders who still believe in God, freedom, and hard work.”

Bottom Line

While Democrats are trying to make Aftyn Behn the next AOC, Tennessee voters have other ideas. In a district that proudly stands with President Trump, they’re far more likely to double down on conservative leadership, defend their values, and reject the radical Left’s latest political experiment.
