Milwaukee Courthouse Turns into a Battleground Over Border Security and Judicial Activism
A Wisconsin judge is now at the center of a national firestorm after being indicted for allegedly helping an illegal immigrant dodge arrest by ICE — inside her own courtroom.
Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan, known for her progressive leanings, pleaded not guilty Thursday to federal charges of obstructing justice and harboring an illegal alien. The case has ignited outrage across the country as Americans demand answers about growing sanctuary policies and open-border lawlessness.
Secret Exit Allegedly Used to Help Illegal Alien Evade ICE
The indictment stems from a stunning April incident involving Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a Mexican national in the U.S. illegally, facing three battery charges.
According to the federal criminal complaint, Judge Dugan misled immigration agents, falsely claiming they needed a separate warrant to enter her courtroom. She then allegedly used a side door to sneak Flores-Ruiz out of the courthouse while agents waited elsewhere.
Flores-Ruiz was captured shortly after — following a foot chase, authorities confirmed.
Protesters Rally Behind Judge as Trial Looms
Outside the federal courthouse in Milwaukee, more than 200 protesters gathered Thursday to support Dugan — even as critics say she put politics ahead of public safety. A trial has now been set for July 21.
If convicted, Judge Dugan faces up to six years in prison and $350,000 in fines.
Legal Team Claims “Judicial Immunity” — But Critics Cry Foul
Dugan’s defense team moved to dismiss the case, citing judicial immunity, and argued the prosecution is a violation of federalism and legal precedent.
“The prosecution against her is barred,” the motion reads. “The Court should dismiss the indictment.”
However, according to witness accounts in the complaint, Dugan appeared agitated, confrontational, and visibly angry as she interfered with ICE agents on April 18.
One week later, FBI agents arrested her at the courthouse, though she was released pending trial.
Border Security Advocates Call It a “Wake-Up Call”
The case is now being viewed as a litmus test for how far liberal judges can go in using their bench to block federal immigration enforcement.
“This is exactly what happens when rogue judges believe they’re above the law,” said one retired federal prosecutor. “It sends the wrong message to criminal aliens and puts American families in danger.”
Conservatives across the country are demanding that judicial misconduct tied to sanctuary ideologies be rooted out — before more illegal immigrants are shielded from deportation by activist officials.
